娘惹珠绣鞋是娘惹们都要会的一门手艺, 在从前的小娘惹们就要开始学如何绣自己的珠绣鞋子. 为什么娘惹们要学呢 ？因为从前的娘惹文化家族里的娘惹们都是出身富裕和大家闺秀. 所以娘惹们就要会绣珠鞋这门手艺, 除了珠鞋娘惹也是要学煮娘惹菜, 娘惹糕点和绣娘惹Kebaya. 从前的小娘惹们是不可以踏出家门, 所以在家里就是做女工来打发时间的同时娘惹们的女工越出色嫁去豪门的

机会越高. 因为从前的老娘惹都认为女工做得好, 娘惹菜煮得好吃, 娘惹糕点做得好; 才是位好娘惹.

Nyonya beaded shoes are a craft that all Nyonyas need to learn. In the past, young Nyonyas had to start learning how to embroider their own beaded shoes. Why did they have to learn this? Because in the past, Nyonyas in cultured families were born into wealth and rich were considered refined young ladies. Therefore, Nyonyas had to master the skill of making beaded shoes. In addition to beaded shoes, Nyonyas also had to learn to cook Nyonya cuisine, make Nyonya kuehs, and embroider Nyonya Kebaya. In the past, young Nyonyas were not allowed to leave the house, so staying at home, they would spend their time working on these crafts. The better their craftsmanship, the higher the chances of marrying into a wealthy and rich family. This is because the older Nyonyas believed that a good Nyonya is one who works well, cooks Nyonya dishes deliciously, and makes Nyonya kuehs skillfully.

要绣好一双娘惹珠绣鞋的时间要大概3个月, 同是要看看图案的难度, 也要配珠子的颜色. 娘惹珠绣鞋的图案都会有牡丹花, 鸟类, 金鱼, 动物为主. 珠绣鞋子也有分成两种不同大小的珠子, 一种是比较大的珠子叫日本珠, 另一种叫Potong Manik就是比日本珠子来得小. 除至之外峇峇娘惹也有金银线绣出的鞋子, 这些金银线是在峇峇娘惹结婚才会穿的鞋子. 现在已不会有人会绣金银线峇峇娘惹鞋子. It takes about three months to properly embroider a pair of Peranakan beaded shoes. In addition, the Peranakan community also had shoes embroidered with gold and silver threads; these gold and silver thread shoes were worn only at Peranakan weddings. Nowadays, no body can make Peranakan shoes with gold and silver threads anymore.
